The double WTCC champions Citroën starts 2016 at the top of the game.
At the first test of the season at Italian Vallelunga, their cars were fastest on both days.
On day one, it was a surprising Mehdi Bennani who was fastest of all, ahead of José María López while the newly arrived Volvo and Thed Björk was 3rd fastest.
On day two, José María López claimed the top spot with teammate Yvan Müller in 2nd place and Björk in the blue Volvo S60 Polestar in 3rd.
Volvo has build a brand new TC1 car, which is visually based on the Volvo S60 Polestar and will participate with Björk and Fredrik Ekblom.
Norbert Michelisz was the fastest Honda with 4th and 6th fastest times on both days. So it appears that the team still has some catching up to do ahead of the start of the season on April 1st-3rd on Paul Ricard in the south of France. Honda has retained the former Formula 1 driver Tiago Monteiro and then signed the 2012 WTCC Champion Rob Huff.
Lada has got hold of Gabriele Tarquini, after he more or less exchanged seat with Huff at Honda. They will continue with Nicky Catsburg and the other new signing, Hugo Valente. Lada wasn’t present at the test, but instead they have opted for a private testing ahead of the season start.
Tom Coronel will be present in a Chevrolet for ROAL Motorsport once again, but the team has been reduced to a single car team after Tom Chilton switched to Sébastien Loeb Racing and a Citroën C-Elysée WTCC
