Nelson Piquet has signed a contract with Rebellion Racing as a driver for the first 3 rounds of the FIA WEC.The three races are 6 hours of Silverstone, 6 hours of Spa and 24 hours of Le Mans.
Piquet will team up with Nick Heidfeld and Nicolas Prost in Rebellion R-One with their AER Turbo engine and Dunlop tyres.
It will be a comeback to Le Mans for Nelson Piquet, since he raced there in 2006 for Team Modena in the GT1 class in an Aston Martin DBR9.
Since then he has won races in GP2 and finished second, followed by a Formula 1 drive for Renault for 2 seasons. The latter came then to a crashing end, and there is no need to go into further details about.
After that he went to USA to join NASCAR Truck series and had some good results.
In 2014 he became a part of the Formula E field, where he claimed the title with Team China in the 2014-2015 season.
The luck and speed have unfortunately failed him and the team so far this season in Formula E. But it will be exciting to follow the Rebellion Racing team with their hopefully improved speed due to the new engine, new Development agreement with Dunlop, and last but not least, 3 very fast drivers in their number 12 car.
