The DTM series has decided to make some adjustments for the 2016 regulations.
Especially 3 things have a big impact.
There will be limitations on the use of DRS, since the effect will disappear if anybody use it at the same time and for too long. Therefore they will put a yet undefined limit on the use of DRS per lap. Most likely it will vary from lap to lap since there is a huge difference between the tracks like Nürburgring and Norisring.
Another change is the Balance Of Performance. This will now be based on the qualifying results instead of the results from the previous weekend. At the start of 2015 it was changed to 2 races per weekend and that often resulted in a total Audi weekend followed by a complete BMW weekend etc. With this change, the organizers wants to adjust before each race, so it will be even closer racing in both the races.
The final big change is that BMW will be handed a performance break. They will be allowed to take 7,5kg out of the car plus add another 5 centimeters to the rear wing. According to the organizers there are some disadvantages on the car compared to the competitors, so that’s why they have decided to give them that permanent change for 2016.
We will see how it all pans out, when the DTM series starts in 1 month at Hockenheim.
