Matt Neal leads BTCC after first weekend

Matt Neal has taken the lead of BTCC after the first weekend’s action at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

Neal drove an almost perfect weekend with 3rd place in race 1, followed by a 2nd and a 5th. The triple Champion was the most consistent driver of the weekend while teammate Gordon Shedden is 2nd in the Championship after P2 in race 1 and a win in race 2. In race 3 he had to retire with a puncture and then ending up in the gravel as a consequence of that.

There were several other big surprises this weekend. The Independent driver Tom Ingram took his first ever Pole Position for race 1 in his Toyota Avensis and kept all competitors behind him and took his first overall win in BTCC.

In race 3 privateer Adam Morgan took the win in his Mercedes Benz A-class. A result that moves him into P3 in the overall classification.

Subaru Team BMR had a difficult debut this weekend with no testing ahead of the season. Still it was possible for both Colin Turkington and Jasob Plato to score some points.

Aron Smith leads the Independent Championship while Adam Morgan and Andrew Jordan is 2nd and 3rd.

Next round will be held next weekend at Donington Park.
