Mattias Ekström takes first victory of the year

Swede Mattias Ekström took the first victory at World RX at Hockenheim.

Ekström, who also participated in the DTM season opener at the same track on the weekend as well, was unbeatable and showed his teammate Toomas Topi Heikkinen into 2nd place.

American Ken Block drove his Ford Focus WRX into 3rd position while Petter Solberg finished 4th.

Robin Larsson made the dramatic highlight of the final when he rolled his Audi. Thankfully it rolled all the way around and landed on the wheels again. After regaining focus again and restarting the engine, he could finish the final – but as the last man.

It wasn’t the only dramatic point of the weekend. Timmy Hansen’s car caught fire during Saturday’s running. But only minutes later the mechanics had fixed the car, and he was ready to race again. That’s the mentality when doing rallycross – if you drive, you will drive no matter what!

Petter Solberg defended his lead in the World Championship but Mattias Ekström has gone on equal points. Toomas Heikkinen is 3rd, while Johan Kristoffersson is 4th.

The next round will be held next weekend at Belgian Mettet.
