It was the Italian driver Matteo Cairoli who took Pole Position for the season opener in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Circuit de Catalunya.
He leads the field of 23 cars, where Mathieu Jaminet, Sven Müller and Michael Ammermüller qualified for the following positions.

One of the championship favourites, Christian Engelhart, was lacking some speed today and only qualified 7th. His MRS Cup teammate Mikkel Overgaard Pedersen impressed everybody by qualifying 9th in the ultra competitive field. The young Danish rookie has just had a small taste last year at COTA, where he finished midfield in very difficult weather conditions.
His preparations ahead of the season hasn’t been ideal, since the deal with MRS Cup Team only came through shortly before the season, and Mikkel thereby missed all the pre-season testing.
And with his experienced teammate qualified just 2 positions ahead, it will be very interesting to follow the young Dane, and the rest of the field.
