Timo Glock was totally in command when round 4 of the DTM championship was run in Austrian Spielberg.
After finishing P4 yesterday at the Red Bull Ring, it was his 3rd DTM victory for the former Formula 1 driver.
From starting position 3 he quickly passed Antonio Felix da Costa, and on the second lap of the race, he passed Pole man Jamie Green and was controlling the race from there until the flag.
Behind him there was a lot more battle for positions.
Once more we saw Antonio Felix da Costa in a fight that ends with big discussions. In an overtaking attempt on Edoardo Mortara, he hit the Italian and then passed him. In the next corner Mortara hit back at the Portuguese so both went into the gravel. Only Mortara had to retire there, but another driver has been added to the club with unhappy drivers regarding the Portuguese driver’s behaviour on track – among those also Ekström.
Ekström drove well up through the field. From 11th starting position he kept his nose clean and with a smart pitstop strategy, where he went a lot longer than the competition, he drove all the way up to P2, finishing ahead of Green.
All weekend long in Austria, we hardly saw anything from Mercedes. Only Paul Di Resta got points yesterday for the team with the star on the engine cover. Sunday it was Daniel Juncadella who was the best placed in 12th position. So there is a lot of work to do for the team from Stuttgart.
Next race will be in 2 weeks for Lausitzring between Berlin and Dresden.
