Sleepy DTM race at Lausitzring

It wasn’t the most interesting race of the season when round 5 of this years DTM championship was run at Lausitzring.

Miguel Molina started the race from Pole Position, but was passed by Jamie Green towards turn 1. Green kept the lead for some laps before Molina could retake the lead, thanks to the DRS rear wing. After this the race was very static. Robert Wickens made it home in 3rd position after overtaking Marco Wittmann early in the race.

The only dramatic moment in the race was when Esteban Ocon and Martin Tomczyk hit each other, after the Frenchman did a hopeless dive on Tomczyk. Ocon did get a drive-through, but that didn’t help Tomczyk much since he had to retire with damaged rear suspension.

Gary Paffett was hitting out on driving standards once again, and shouted over the radio to play for a penalty after, what he thought was being pushed off the track by another driver. Race control saw it differently and after investigating it, they saw it as a race incident. He himself was on the outside of another driver in a corner where you can’t overtake, and simply ran out of room.

Miguel Molina’s victory was his 2nd in DTM so there was a lot of joy at his camp.

The next race will be run at the same track tomorrow.
