Surprising win for Auer in the best race of the year

It was a highly surprising Austrian victory for Lucas Auer and Mücke Motorsport, when round 6 of the DTM championship was held at Lausitzring.

Auer had taken Pole Position for the race and led from start and wasn’t really being pushed throughout the race.

Behind him there was plenty of action. Timo Glock started 2nd but over the 46 laps he dropped further and further back and finished the race in 10th place.

Just the opposite was the case for Mattias Ekström. From P9 he repeated the trick from Red Bull Ring with a long first stint, and then returned to the track in P5 with fresh tires. Then he could overtake 3 guys and finish in 2nd position.

Robert Wickens for Mercedes started 3rd and finished in the same position.

Yesterday’s winner, Miguel Molina, had a collision with Augusto Farfus, that shortly send the Brazillian’s car airborne before it touched the asphalt again, and slid off into the run-off. After that he could return to the pits but had to retire there. Molina got a drive-through for that episode.

Edoardo Mortara was unlucky to hit one of Nico Müller’s mechanics during his pit stop. The Audi mechanic broke his foot but fortunately it wasn’t worse, since it was a very hard hit.

The next race will be in 14 days at Norisring.
