German Sven Müller won the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Silverstone, after a fantastic drive from 3rd starting position.
All the cars were on slicks on the formation lap, but then the rain came and the start was aborted. Everybody got the chance to change to rain tyres and then the race was started 10 minutes later behind safety car. That lasted for 2 laps before the field was released.
The poleman Mathieu Jaminet kept the lead for the first laps ahead of Matteo Cairoli, but first Müller overtook Cairoli and midway through the race he made an amazing manouvre into the Maggots/Becketts combination and overtook Jaminet. After that none of the competitions saw anything but the red and white rear bumper of the Porsche Cup car.
A driver that didn’t get to do much racing was Sam Power. Already at the finish of the safety car period, he collided with another driver and had to retire. The only retirement of the race, amazingly.
There were a lot of guest starters this weekend from the British Porsche Carrera Cup. Nick Yelloly was the best finisher in 4th position ahead of Josh Webster. Tom Sharp was P4 for a long time in the race, but fell backwards through the field at the end of the race due to a drying track.
When the chequered flag was shown after the 12 laps, Müller passed the line first ahead of Jaminet and Cairoli.
Sven Müller gained 2 points on the championship leader, Jaminet. Cairoli did initially have the lead right after the race at Red Bull Ring last week. However he was found underweight and therefore disqualified and lost the lead as well. So now we have Jaminet ahead of Müller and Cairoli, only separated by a few points.
