Edoardo Mortara takes Audi’s 50th win in DTM

Edoardo Mortara took Audi’s victory number 50 in DTM today at Nürburgring.

The Italian started from 6th position but was already in P4 during the first lap.

However it was the Austrian Lucas Auer in Mercedes who had taken Pole Position – in fact for the 2nd day in a row. Yesterday, however, he wasn’t allowed to keep it since he had a 5 grid penalty.

Auer led the first half of the race, but during the pitstops Audi made a jump ahead with a better strategy, and made it possible for Mortara to take the win.

Auer held 2nd place to the flag while yesterday’s winner, Marco Wittmann, finished 3rd. That made all 3 brands be represented on the podium.

There was slightly cleaner racing today than yesterday, but still we saw a clash between Maximilian Götz and Mike Rockenfeller, that gave the former a penalty. Jamie Green and Gary Paffett had a contact too, that Green was deemed responsible for.

The next time we will see DTM back on track is in 2 weeks, where they will race at the Hungaroring.
