BOSS GP found their 2 Champions of 2016 when the penultimate round was held at Brno in the Czech Republic.
Ingo Gerstl in the Open class has been at the front all season long. He has been in a close fight with Klaas Zwart throughout the season, but made a quite big gap to him at the previous round in Assen 1 month ago. Gerstl in Toro Rosso STR1 won both races of this weekend and showed Peter Milavec in a Panoz DP01 – Champcar 2nd position.
Frits van Eerd in a Minardi PS04B took 3rd place in heat 1, when he had to retire with a gearbox failure in race 2. Wolfgang Jordan in a Benneton B197 took full advantage of that, and grabbed 3rd position on the podium.
In the Formula class we saw Chris Höher in a Dallara GP2 car win heat 1 ahead of Christof Von Grünigen in a Lola B05/52 AutoGP and Salvatore De Plano in another GP2 car.
Höher was meant to start in front for heat 2, but he stalled on the formation lap, and then went on to take his original position. Because of that he was excluded from the race, because the rules state that you have to start from the back. Instead Luis Michael Dorrbecker in a Lola B05/52 AutoGP won ahead of Mahaveer Raghunathan in a similar car and Christopher Brenier in an Panoz DP09B – Superleague Formula in 3rd position.
With that 3rd place, Brenier secured his Championship title aswell.
The finale race of BOSS GP 2016 will be held in 1 months time at Imola, where the rest of the Championship positions will be decided.
