Connor De Phillippi and Christopher Mies won the ADAC GT Masters Championship at Hockenheim today.
The Audi pair driving for Montaplast by Land-Motorsport had to fight until the last few minutes to get the title.
4 cars had Championship possibilities before today’s race, so everybody was fighting.
When Mies drove through the gravel on his in-lap ahead of the driver change, everybody expected their championship to be over because 2 of 3 competitors were ahead.
But with 25 minutes left of the race, we saw a huge accident for title contenders Callaway Competition Corvette with Jules Gounon behind the wheel, which brought out the red flag. The French driver broke his left left, but otherwise escaped without any other major injuries.
That was the break for Phillippi, who then only had to keep the position and get the car to the flag.
Precote Herberth Motorsport with Martin Ragginger and Robert Renauer won the race in their Porsche ahead KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard Porsche with Kevin Estre and David Jahn – and AMG – Team Zakspeed driven by Nicolai Sylvest and Nikolaj Rogivue in P3 as well as being winners of the Junior classification.
Phillippi/Mies won the overal ADAC GT Masters Championship ahead of David Jahn in 2nd place, with the unlucky Jules Gounon and Daniel Keilwitz in third.
Connor De Phillippi also won the Junior Championship head of Jules Gounon and Patrick Assenheimer.
The Teams Championship was won by Montaplast by Land-Motorsport ahead of Callaway Competition and KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard.
The 2017 season will start in April.
