Rebellion Racing has announced 4 out of the 6 drivers who will compete for them in FIA WEC in 2017.
It will be Nico Prost, Mathias Beche, Nelson Piquet, and Bruno Senna.
Prost starts his 9th season with the team, whilst Beche will get his 5th season for the Swiss/English team. Nelson Piquet will have his first full season with the team, after having done the spring part of the season for them in 2016. There he won two LMP1 Privateer races out of three possible. The luck wasn’t on their side at Le Mans, where they had to retire.
Bruno Senna is new to the team but far from a new face in FIA WEC and Le Mans. In 2016 he was season long driver at RGR Sport by Morand, but he also has previously raced for teams like Aston Martin Racing and ORECA.
The team has hereby announced all the professional drivers for the car, but still has to announce the two silver drivers. The team is participating in the LMP2 category in 2017, after many years in LMP1, and LMP2 requires a silver ranked driver in the car.
We have however seen a lot of examples that silver drivers sometimes as just as fast as gold or platinum ranked drivers, since GP2 drivers also can get the status of silver. So it will be very interesting to see if Rebellion Racing will bring real silvers or “fake silver”, like some call the professional drivers, who has been lucky to get a silver ranking.
The team says goodbye to Alex Imperatori and Dominik Kraihamer, who won the LMP1 privateer championship for them in 2016 along with Mathias Beche.
Rebellion Racing will already be in action at the Daytona 24 Hours race at the end of January. This will be a star lineup with Neel Jani, Nick Heidfeld, Sebastien Buemi and Stephane Sarrazin. The IMSA series don’t have a demand for silver drivers in the LMP2 cars, so therefore the team can bring this fantastic line-up for the season opener in USA.
