Robert Kubica new driver for ByKOLLES Racing Team

Many were surprised, when Robert Kubica got announced as a new drier for ByKOLLES Racing Team today.

The former Formula 1 driver from Poland perhaps tested the car after the season in Bahrain, but a lot of people thought it was only a “friendly favour” from Kubica’s good friend Colin Kolles. But now it is official that he will drive in the FIA WEC season for the German team.

At the same time it was also announced that Oliver James Webb will continue to drive for the team, like in the 2016 season.

The third man in the team is yet to be announced, but in 2016 Simon Trummer, James Rossiter and Pierre Kaffer drove for the team. Earlier we also saw Vitantonio Liuzzi around the team, but everything is still open for 2017.

Robert Kubica was unlucky when he got involved in a big accident in a rally car in 2011 and thus had to give up his Formula 1 dream. Since then he has driven more rally races and 24H series, such as the 24 hours race in Dubai earlier this year. Which gives the 32 year-old a taste of a long distance race and now will drive at Le Mans.

The team will participate in the LMP1 class as the only priavateer team in 2017, so the victory is almost impossible because of the other four factory cars, which should be well ahead of the ByKOLLES team. But with only four factory cars, there is still a chance for a podium place, and it’s certainly the goal for the little team.
