Filipe Albuquerque will continue in the European Le Mans Series in 2017.
The fast Portuguese has for the last 3 season driven for JOTA Sport, but since the team no longer wants to participate in the ELMS, he was looking for something new.
He has found that at United Autosports, who will field a Ligier JS P217 Gibson, in addition to the two Ligier JS P3 LMP3 cars that the team already has.
Albuquerque will partner up with Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer. The last two mentioned will also do the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the third driver will be announced at a later stage.
Albuquerque has done plenty of endurance races, since he started driving closed GT cars or open and closed sportscars in 2010. In 2011 he was picked up by Audi Sport to be one of their works driver, and since then he’s done several races for the team from Ingolstadt. In 2013 he won Daytona 24 Hours in the GTD category, and this year he was very close to winning overall but finished second with Action Express. He has participated in the Blancpain Endurance Series plus A1GP and Sebring 12 hours, in addition to ELMS and WEC. He is also the defending ELMS Champion in LMP2 with JOTA Sport.
The European Le Mans Series will start with the Prologue on March 28th-29th at Monza, 14 days prior to the season opening at Silverstone.
