Formula E returns this weekend

FIA Formula E Championship is finally back this weekend for the 2016/17 season.

It will be Buenos Aires ePrix this weekend, which is the first round in over three months.

The first two races of the season were held in Hong Kong and Marrakesh, and at the moment Sebastien Buemi is the Championship leader by a big margin. The Swiss driver has won both rounds and currently leads Lucas Di Grassi by 22 points – i.e. almost a race win!

The Renault E.DAMS teammate of Buemi, Nicolas Prost, is in third while this seasons positive surprise, Mahindra Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist is in fourth. DS Virgin driver Sam Bird is the meat in the Mahindra sandwich with Nick Heidfeld in 6th.

While Buemi has a big lead, the next five drivers are split by just 11 points. And we still have ten races left, including this weekend’s race.

The teams have been busy simulating and analysing data since the previous round in Marrakesh, and the common line in all of the teams race-previews is how much more performance that they have found in the cars.

Renault E.DAMS also leads the Teams Championship ahead of the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team with Di Grassi and Daniel Abt, while Mahindra Racing is third.

The weather forecasts reports rain – at least until midday – and it could add a bit more spice to the race this weekend. But weather close to Equator has been quite unpredictable, so we just have to wait and see for tomorrow.

The race will be 91,723 kilometer long, or in other words, 37 laps on the 2,479 kilometre long track with 12 turns. It’s Formula E’s third year at this circuit, and the former winners for the past two years are the current MS Amlin Andretti driver Antonio Felix Da Costa, and DS Virgin driver Sam Bird.
