Gianmaria Bruni new Porsche works driver

After the Ferrari anouncement earlier today, Porsche has just confirmed that Gianmaria Bruni will become new works driver for the German brand.

From June he will start testing Porsche cars and from July onwards he will participate in Porsche races in USA.

The former Formula 1 driver for Minardi in 2004 has since then gained much praise in the GT sport, with victories at Le Mans in 2008, 2012 and 2014 as well as FIA WEC titles in 2013 and 2014.

The reason that he can’t join Porsche until June is because he still has a contract with Ferrari until then. A clever move by the Italians, since it means that he can’t participate in FIA WEC or Le Mans 2017, and Ferrari therefore won’t get troubles with him in the Championship standings.

But we can be quite sure that “Gimmi” Bruni will be in a Porsche 911 RSR in FIA World Endurance Championship in 2018, where Porsche will very likely use his big experience and knowledge about all the circuits.
