The FIA World Motor Sport Council held a meeting in Geneva today, where some minor adjustments for the FIA WEC rules were accepted.
It was approved that the GTE Championship will be an official World Championship.
A new tire limitation was approved for LMP1 and GTE, where the numbers of tires allowed during a race weekend has been reduced.
Technical waivers for new LMP1 constructors wanting to run and develop a hybrid system for the cars.
And the probably biggest of them all. If the ambient temperature exceeds 32 degrees, continuous driver time in the car has been limited to 80 minutes, before they has to jump out of the car and let a colleague continue driving. This new point is due to safety, to keep the drivers as fresh as possible. There is already a cockpit temperature rule in place, but the teams have been trying to be sneaky about the positioning of the sensors close to where the airflow is getting into the car. Now those games can’t be played anymore – 32 degrees and then it will be max 80 minutes in the car.
