CEFC Manor TRS Racing has announced their fifth driver as no other than Jean-Eric Vergne.
The 26 year-old Frenchman will be driving FIA WEC parallel with his Formula E commitment. It means that we won’t see him at the Prologue in two weeks’ time at Monza, as well as at the Nürburgring race later in the year. At least that’s what the team is telling at the moment.
The former Formula 1 driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso through three seasons has now finally skipped the Formula 1 dream, after being a test and reserve driver for Ferrari for two years following his Toro Rosso departure. Currently he’s driving for the Techeetah team in Formula E, but this January he was also doing the 24 Hours of Dubai race. At that race he caught the endurance bug – which he admitted publicly during and after the race. So it will be very interesting to see what he can do for the British team with the ORECA 07 Gibson LMP2 car.
With this announcement there is only one seat left at Manor. Hopefully they will have a more stable line-up this year, unlike last year where there were 13 drivers in and out for the 6 seats (2 cars) throughout the season.
