Porsche fastest in free practice

Porsche was the fastest in front of Toyota, in the official free practice at Le Mans.

It was Porsche #1 which was the quickest car in LMP1, with Toyota Gazoo #7 as the second quickest, and Porsche #2 in third.

ByKolles Racing Team #4 had a good training with 24 laps, and they were 2,5 seconds faster than the quickest LMP2 car. They, however, needed to replace their engine at the end of the session. But if they can keep the speed, it will look promising for the rest of the week.

In LMP2 the fastest car was G-Drive Racing #26, in front of Vaillante Rebellion #13 with David Heinemeier Hansson as one of the drivers behind the wheel, and their sister car #31 in third.

AF Corse Ferrari #71 was the fastest in GTE Pro, followed by Aston Martin Racing #97 and AF Corse Ferrari #51. Aston Martin Racing #95 with Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen  was fourth quickest in the class, while Corvette Racing #63 with Jan Magnussen, among others, was fifth. Michael Christensen was only 11th in the field.

In GTE Am we saw Aston Martin Racing #98 as the quickest of all, in front of DH Racing Ferrari #83 and JMW Ferrari #84. Scuderia Corsa Ferrari #65, which has Christina Nielsen as one of the drivers, was sixth fastest.

The practice wasn’t really problem free.

Aston Martin Racing #95, with Richie Stanaway behind the wheel, got a puncture, and shortly after that Clearwater Racing #60 also had the same problem.

Larbre Competition #50 drove out of the track at the end of the Porsche curves, and that cost them an hour to get the car repaired.

Toyota Gazoo Racing #7 with Kamui Kobayashi had a spin in the Ford chicane just before the end of the 4-hours practice. Though he could continue by himself, after turning the car around in the right direction again.

Signatech Alpine Matmut #36 went out of the track in the Mulsanne corner and had to be pulled out of the gravel by a recovery vehicle. Luckily, there wasn’t a serious damage on the car.

Not long after that, Clearwater Racing #60 repeated the same stunt in the same corner, which resulted in the training being ended with a slow zone, and thus nobody could improve their laptime.

The first qualifying session of the 24-hour race will start at 22:00 local time.
