Matt Campbell won the Saturday Round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Mexico.
The 22 year-old Australian started the race from P2, in a sandwich between the two title candidates, Dennis Olsen on Pole Position and Michael Ammermüller in P3.
Olsen made a small mistake on the second lap of the race, losing two positions, and dropping behind both Campbell and Ammermüller.
After six laps of the race, the Safety Car had to come onto the track, closing up the whole field. Once the race was released again, Campbell was able to pull away, while Olsen was busy putting pressure on Ammermüller.
There was no further changes to Top 3, and Campbell could take his third victory of the year ahead of Michael Ammermüller and Dennis Olsen.
Ammermüller leads Olsen by 5 point, while Campbell has a 9 points gap over Dan Cammish, who finished the Saturday race in fourth. Ammermüller only needs to finish on the podium, then it won’t be enough for Olsen to take the title, and since the German driver is starting ahead of the Norwegian compatriot, he should be able to control the race.
The final and title deciding round of this years Championship will be run at 17.30 CET.
