Bobby Rahal and Jaguar Racing will start working on a common motorsport programme once again, when Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will be the first team announced in the Jaguar I-pace eTROPHY.
The race series will start as a support series for FIA Formula E Championship from next season onwards, and will travel around the world together wit the electric single seater cars.
Bobby Rahal is a Jaguar car dealer in USA, so the collaboration is a natural thing, and furthermore gives the new series a lot of attention with such a prominent name.
The last time that Rahal and Jaguar Racing worked together didn’t end in a happy way. Rahal was picked by Jaguar Racing for their Formula 1 programme in Year 2000, but that partnership ended after around one year.
Rahal already had success in the CART series prior to that, but switched to the IndyCar series in 2004, where the team has run ever since. RLL has been competing in the ALMS/WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 2007 too, where they have partnered up with BMW, which is another of the brands that is in his dealership.
Prior to running his own team, Bobby Rahal was a Formula 1 and Indycar driver himself amongst many other racing series, and actually started his own CART team with himself as lead driver.
The Jaguar I-pace eTROPHY starts late 2018, when Season 5 of the Formula E Championship will start.
