The Jackie Chan DC Racing JOTA team has announced their driver line-up for the Daytona 24 Hours.
And it won’t just be anybody, who will race in the #FortuneCat37 and #Mighty38, which they have dubbed the two FIA WEC cars. We are still waiting for confirmation from IMSA on the car number at Daytona.
It will be Ho-Pin Tung, Alex Brundle, Antonio Felix da Costa, and Ferdinand Habsburg in one car, while Lance Stroll, Felix Rosenqvist, Daniel Juncadella, and Robin Frijns will be driving the other.
Ho-Pin Tung and Alex Brundle have been driving for the team throughout the 2017 season, but the other six drivers are new to the squad.
Antonio Felix da Costa is a works driver at BMW, but they didn’t have any seats left at their own RLL setup at Daytona. So he will get some good running in the ORECA 07 Gibson – even though its much faster than the BMW M8 GTE he is going to pilot in the FIA WEC season. But he will get some endurance miles under his belt, which is a big change compared to the Formula E races at around 50 minutes, that Felix da Costa usually drives in.
Ferdinand Habsburg is a new talent that JOTA has spotted, and he could very well go on to replace Thomas Laurent in the FIA WEC season, after he went to Rebellion and their LMP1 programme. The Austrian racing driver has been driving in the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and has already won a race in his rookie season. He finished seventh in the Championship and ended the season with a fourth place in Macau.
We have already described the drivers in the other car in this article.
The testing ahead of the Daytona 24 Hours will get away next weekend, where the ROAR test will be run. Jackie Chan DC Racing JOTA will field the cars, just like every other team, to get the rust blown away, before the race is run on the final weekend of January. And don’t forget – the oval is a brand new challenge for the team, so they have quite a bit of setup to go through before the race.
