First driver signed for Racing Team Nederland

Racing Team Nederland aims big this season, going for a full season FIA World Endurance Championship 2018/19 campaign.

That is clearly shown in the first driver announcement from the team today.

Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde will be the solid base in the yellow Dallara P217 – Gibson. The 32 year-old racing driver has one full Formula 1 season to his CV in the Caterham F1 Team, on top of several tests for the same team and some testing for Sauber F1 Team as well. He actually had a race contract in hand with Sauber for the 2015 season, but the team found some loophole somewhere in the contract, so he didn’t get to race the car.

After a unwanted break in 2015, he returned to the driving seat in 2016, where he won the European Le Mans Series in LMP2 with JOTA Racing under the G-Drive Racing banner. He also raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year for the team, but sadly the car retired in the race.

2017 was a bit of a sabbatical too, where he mainly was an F1 pundit on Dutch TV. But he will be driving again on the highest level in 2018.

Racing Team Nederland has applied for an entry in the FIA WEC, with the final entry being released on 9 February. But no doubt, their chances have grown with a name like van der Garde on their entry.

The team will announce the rest of their drivers in the near future.
