Dale Coyne Racing have their 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series line-up ready.
It’s been known for a long time that Sebastien Bourdais will pilot car #18, and today we got the driver announcements for car #19.
It’s not just one, but two who will pilot the car for this season.
Canadian Zach Claman De Melo and Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi will share this car throughout the season.
De Melo will do the first three races of the year on the normal tracks in St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Barber Motorsports Park, while Fittipaldi will do the oval race in Phoenix and the Indy500. The split between the rest of the races hasn’t been announced in the press release.
Pietro Fittipaldi won the World Series Formula V8 3.5 Championship in 2017. As a small side note, he is the grand son of Emerson Fittipaldi, but he has proved his own speed.
Zach Claman De Melo has done two seasons in the Indy Lights Championship, where he finished 9th and 5th in the Championship. At the IndyCar season finale at Sonoma, he started for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and finished the race in 17th.
Fittipaldi will be in the car this weekend, where the Verizon IndyCar Series will have their first official test of the year in Phoenix. The aim is to get his oval license there, while De Melo will be in the car at Sebring later this month, as a preparation for the debut in St. Petersburg on 11 March.
