Charles Weerts goes to VAR

Charles Weerts has chosen to go to Van Amersfoort Racing in the upcoming ADAC Formula 4 season.

The 16 year-old Belgium drove for Team Motopark in 2017, where he finished second in the Rookie Championship, adding a few overall top-10 finishes to that, during the year.

The team needs a few more drivers hired, since third placed driver in the Championship, Felipe Drugovich, is unlikely to race another year in the ADAC Formula 4. The Brazilian has already done two seasons in the series, and as a 17 year old, it’s time for him to move up to Formula 3.

On top of that, Kami Laliberte left the team with two rounds to go in 2017, and his replacement, Artem Petrov, was announced as new Formula 3 driver for the VAR team earlier this week.

Dane Frederik Vesti is expected to keep his seat in the team, but there has been no official word from either of the parties yet.

Joey Alders was announced as the first driver for Van Amersfoort Racing earlier this month.

The ADAC Formula 4 season starts on 13-15 April in Oschersleben.
