Rene Rast won’t participate in the DTM Sunday race at the Lausitzring.
The defending DTM Champion had a serious accident during the Saturday race, where he rolled his Audi Sport RS5 DTM car, with basically only the safety cell left of the car.
He was able to exit the car himself, and the first reports was him being okay.
He was transported to the local hospital, and they preferred to keep him overnight. It’s already confirmed that he hasn’t broken any bones.
That means that Audi Sport will only run five cars in the race tomorrow. Other than the damage on Rast’s car, they have two other heavily damaged cars. Nico Müller and Jamie Green crashed at the start of the race, when Müller didn’t get off the line, and Green hit the rear with great force, being unable to avoid him. The whole front of Green’s car were gone, while the rear of Müller’s car was destroyed.
Audi Sport has confirmed that they will build a new car for Rene Rast, so it will be ready for the Budapest round in two weeks’ time.
Racing24-7.net wish Rast a good recovery, and hope that his body won’t be too sore in the coming days.
