Second free practice without drama

The drama had been turned quite a few notches down, when the second free practice for the FIA World Endurance Championship was run at Silverstone today.

Toyota Gazoo Racing #7 was once again fastest ahead of their teammates in #8, while SMP Racing #17 was third fastest. Rebellion Racing #3 did the fourth fastest lap of all.

#17 did however have a few gearbox issues, but after checking it, the team found a sensor to be faulty rather than some of the more mechanical stuff.

There were two LMP1 cars who didn’t post a time at all. Rebellion Racing #1 was still being rebuilt after the crash earlier in the day. It was announced by the team, that it wasn’t only the car that had got damaged. Bruno Senna has injured his foot, so he won’t be racing any more this weekend. Racing24-7.net wish Bruno a speedy recovery.

ByKolles Racing Team #4 didn’t drive either. What looked like a harmless shutting the engine down in FP1, actually turned out to have been a fire, so the mechanics had to change the wiring loom amongst over things on the car.

In LMP2 we had the Jackie Chan DC Racing #38 as the fastest car. Signatech Alpine Matmut #36 was second while TDS Racing #28 was third – so exactly the same top-3 as in FP1, just swapping the positions a bit. Only Larbre Competition #50 had lost touch with the over cars in the category, and were a bit more than 4 seconds off the #38 pace.

Anthony Davidson has jumped into the DragonSpeed #31 for the rest of the season, and the Brit had to get used to a slightly different car, after being the pilot of the Toyota hybrid car for the many seasons. He had a small detour over the grass while attempting to overtake a slower GT car, but didn’t hit anything on his alternative route.

Aston Martin Racing really came to life in FP2, and were 1-2 for a long time. Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK #67 did however manage to sneak in front of everybody by 0,1 of a second with AMR #97 being second, while Ford #66 squeezed itself in front of AMR #95.

Porsche #92 was all the way down in 6th, while their teammates were two positions further behind.

But nobody was faster than Porsche in GTE Am, where Dempsey Proton Racing #88 were quicker than Aston Martin Racing #98 and Dempsey Proton Racing #77. #98 had a solo spin in the Becketts corner, where the car just spun on itself, went through the grass, and ended up on the run off area, where he thankfully was able to drive it away from, by its own steam.
