United Autosports has announced the drivers for the first LMP3 car, in the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series season 2018/19.
Defending Champions Guy Cosmo and Patrick Byrne will pair up once again. The two drove together at the Jackie Chan DC Racing X JOTA outfit in the previous season, having Gabriel Aubry alongside them for the second half of the season.
They will be joined by Salih Yoluc for this upcoming season. Yoluc has primarily been driving Aston Martin GTE cars for TF Sport, but has also raced GT3 cars, with the 24 Hours of Spa being one of them.
But the three drivers and team already know each other from the Gulf 12 Hours back in December 2017, where they raced in a LMP3 car in the new-classic.
The Asian Le Mans Series races at the circuits in Shanghai, Fuji, Buriram and Sepang. While Cosmo and Byrne already have experience from the latter three, Shanghai will be new for both them and the team. But that is where Yoluc will bring an ace card. He will be racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the exact same circuit the week before. It is however questionable about the level of knowledge that he can transfer from the GTE car into the LMP3 car. But at least he knows which way the circuit goes.
The plan for United Autosports is to race with 2 Ligier JS P2 LMP2 cars and 2 Ligier JS P3 LMP3 cars. The other drivers are still unannounced.
The season starts on 24-25 November 2018 at the Formula 1 circuit in Shanghai.
