Edoardo Mortara will do another season at the Venturi Formula E team.
The 31 year-old Swiss driver got his debut in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in December 2017, where he was very close at winning the second race in his debut weekend, until he made an error under braking, losing the lead to Felix Rosenqvist. That was super annoying for Mortara, since it was the only time for the whole 2017/18 season, that he finished in the top 6.
The rest of the season was a bit of a damp squid, with only two further race finishes in the points. The team is supported by Mercedes-AMG, who is preparing their own entry to the Formula E Championship. They have opted to place him in the team once again, before he might be heading for the works team for the 2019/20 season.
Mortara has previously proven his speed on street circuits, where he has won 6 races in Macau, but has also won races at Norisring in both Formula 3 and DTM.
As Racing24-7.net announced back in May, Felipe Massa will be a new driver in the team. Therefore it’s extra important for the team to have a driver, who already knows the series, and the unique challenges in combining speed and economy running.
The team has this season got Susie Wolff as new team principal, who has her own close relations to Mercedes-AMG.
One thing that is new for all the teams in Season 5, is the brand new car. Just like in the four previous seasons, all the cars will be build by Spark, while the individual teams will develop their own driveline or buy from another team. For the 2018/19 season, they will once again run a Venturi, but no question there will be more or less involvement from Mercedes-AMG.
The fifth season of ABB FIA Formula E Championship will start on 15 December in Ad Diriyah i Saudi Arabia.
