Bernhard disqualified – Land inherits the win

KÜS Team75 Bernhard #17 has been disqualified from the ADAC GT Masters race 1 at the Sachsenring. That was announced by the DMSB today.

The team raced under appeal, when the scrutineers found some tape on the rear wing of their Porsche 911 GT3 R, which closed a gap between some of the elements, making it more aerodynamic. That tape wasn’t a part of the homologation of the car, and therefore not allowed to be on the car. Both cars from the Bernhard team and the Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche #99 were found guilty, but #99 and #18 chose to take their penalty right away and start from the back, while #17 didn’t want to give up that Pole Position, that they believed they have won legally.

That made #17 put down a protest on the scrutineering report, and when you do that, you are allowed to keep your result, but with the risk of losing all potential points and positions afterwards.

The decision today means that KÜS Team75 Bernhard #17 will be disqualified from the race, while the car finishing second on the track, Montaplast by Land-Motorsport Audi #28 with Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde are the new winners.

Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing Mercedes #20 with Nicolai Sylvest and Kim Luis Schramm moves into second, while Mikkel Jensen and Timo Scheider in the BMW Team Schnitzer #42 will step onto the last podium position.

There are a few changes to the championship standings. Precote Herberth Motorsport #99 still sits in first place, four points ahead of MANN-FILTER Team HTP Mercedes #47, while Montaplast by Land-Motorsport Audi #28 moves into third, 13 points from the lead.

The season finale in the ADAC GT Masters will be run at Hockenheim this weekend.
