NIO Formula E Team will enter the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E Championship 2018/19 season, with two rising stars, in the shape of Oliver Turvey and Tom Dillmann
Despite their young age of 31 and 29 years respectively, they already have a lot of Formula E starts under their belts.
French Tom Dillmann drove the second half of the 2016/17 season for the Venturi team, and was back in the car for 3 race weekends in the 2017/18 season, where Edoardo Mortara had some date clashes with the DTM series.
Now he will get a full season as a replacement for Luca Filippi and Ma Qing Hua, who shared the NIO seat throughout last season.
British driver Oliver Turvey has been a part of the NIO Formula E Team since the series started back in 2014, but it wasn’t until the season finale in London in 2015, that he raced for the first time. He took his maiden podium in the 2017/18 season, with a good second place finish in Mexico.
The two drivers will race a NIO 004. The car is the new Gen-2 car, which looks significantly different that it’s predecessor, and has got a HALO and closed front fenders, amongst many other things. NIO has developed the driveline themselves, and they will be fighting against 10 other teams in the coming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season, starting on 15 December in Saudi Arabia.
