Magnus Racing goes Italian

Magnus Racing will have to start speaking Italian, when the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship starts in a bit over two months’ time.

The American team has chosen to buy a brand new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo for the GTD category.

They have traditionally sworn to German technology, with Porsche being the choice of weapon for many years, before Audi was their car for the last three seasons.

John Potter will once again be joined by Andy Lally, while the third and potential fourth driver at the endurance rounds hasn’t been announced just yet, but it’s not uncommon that Lamborghini will send a works driver for these rounds.

The team has without a doubt looked at the success that Lambo has had for the last few years in the GTD category, where there two latest seasons haven’t really been Audi years in the IMSA series. This years Champion was Paul Miller Racing, who raced the Italian brand, too.

There will be some things that the team can recognize – the engine in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo is exactly the same V10 engine that is mounted in the Audi R8 LMS car – who, by the way, will bring their own Evo version for 2019.

Magnus Racing will run at The ROAR Before The Rolex 24 test in early January, before the Daytona 24 Hours at the end of the month.
