New engine for Bykolles

It’s one week ago, that Bykolles Racing Team pulled out of the 1000 Miles of Sebring race in March, due to disagreements with their engine supplier NISMO.

There is a solution to that problem now – at least for the last two races in the FIA World Endurance Championship races, during the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team has announced Gibson Technology will supply engines for the team at these those race weekends. The Sebring race is still off the cards for the grey and yellow car.

The engine will be the same spec as what DragonSpeed is using in their BR Engineering BR01 LMP1 car. It’s a 4,5 litres V8 engine named GL458.

The team will have the first engine delivered in April, so they can install and test it before the Spa race in May.

This is the third different engine supplier in three years for the team. They raced with AER engines through several seasons, but got hold of the NISMO power plant at the start of the 2017 season.

There are several possebilities for fire to emerge from the engine bay – sometimes it’s the engine itself, but it could be oil- or fuel lines, or even gearbox related. But fact is, that it wasn’t uncommon for smoke and/or flames to be licking the rear rear of the Enso CLM P1/01.

The 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps will be run from 2-4 May 2019.
