Sage Karam will return to the NTT IndyCar Series, when they go to Toronto in one and a half weeks.
The American has signed a deal with Carlin, to drive the second car alongside Max Chilton.
The deal has come about with thanks to SmartStop Self Storage, who will be the predominant sponsor on car #31 at the Toronto race.
Karam raced the Indianapolis 500 race for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing earlier this year, but they only do this single race of the year. So the 24 year-old driver from Nazareth in Pennsylvania is very interested in getting more seat time. He has had 17 Indycar starts so far, and has been racing sportscars as well, in both Daytona Prototype and Lexus GTD cars. That didn’t bring him much success, and he wasn’t too popular in the paddock either with his driving style and behaviour, which was very different from what you normally see in sportscar racing.
Patricio O’Ward was driving car #31 earlier in the year, but he will race in the Japanese Super Formula series due to his Red Bull contract, where there are date clashes with two upcoming Indycar races. Otherwise it should be possible for O’Ward to return, unless he will race in Formula 2, which he had his debut in, just a few days ago.
The Honda Indy Toronto race will be run on 14 July 2019.
