Action Express cuts down and shuffle line-up

Action Express Racing will only be entering a single car in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2020.

The team has run the Mustang Sampling #5 and Whelen Engineering #31 colours for the last few seasons. Car #5 will no longer run, after Mustang Sampling has decided to end their sponsorship.

Joao Barbosa and Filipe Albuquerque were the two full-season drivers on the car in 2019. Albuquerque will move into the #31, where he will be the endurance driver, at the longer rounds, alongside Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani, who got their contracts extended earlier in the year.

Barbosa is unfortunately no longer a part of the, that he has been racing for since 2010.

It’s another loss for the IMSA series, which already lost another DPi car from CORE autosport, after they have chosen to shut their Nissan entry down. There are no news about new DPi teams entering, so we might be down to single digit entries in the top category. But lets hope that another programme will pop up soon – but it has to be really soon, since the 2020 season starts in just over two months’ time at Daytona International Speedway.
