Jones and Scherer to DTM

WRT Team Audi Sport has announced their two drivers for DTM 2020.

Ed Jones and Fabio Scherer will be the two drivers for the Audi RS5 DTM cars.

Jones has raced in NTT IndyCar Series for the previous seasons, following the same path as Pietro Fittipaldi, who did the same in 2019. Jones is born in Dubai, but by British parents, and has lived in the USA for the last few years. He did some years for smaller teams, where he did quite well and got awarded with a seat in the Chip Ganassi Racing in 2018, with high expectations. He couldn’t live up to those expectations at all, so he was sacked after only one season.

He will now give the DTM a go, where the 24-year-old driver will have 20-year-old Scherer as a teammate.

The Swiss driver has previously raced in the ADAC Formula 4 and the FIA F3 European Championship but now gives the closed cars a go.

The team will say goodbye to before mentioned Fittipaldi and Jonathan Aberdein.

WRT Team Audi Sport made their debut in the DTM series in 2019, where they became the first privateer team to enter the series. It’s only been works supported teams competing until now, but WRT does have quite close tights to Audi, so they do know each other quite well. WRT has been running TCR cars for Audi for the last few seasons.

Ed Jones and Fabio Scherer are testing the cars these days on the Spanish track, Jerez.
