Grasser Racing Team will be aiming at doing a hattrick in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener in 2020.
The Lamborghini team with the lime green Huracan GT3 Evo cars has won the Daytona 24 Hours in both 2018 and 2019, but it will be a completely different line-up in 2020 compared to January 2019.
Franck Perera, Richard Heistand, Steijn Schothorst and Albert Costa Balboa will be the four drivers, who have been called up for Daytona, but the team has also confirmed participating in the three other Michelin Endurance Racing rounds in 2020 – Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta.
Perera is a works driver at Lamborghini while Costa Balboa is very much liked by the Italian manufacturer. Lamborghini hasn’t announced their works drivers for 2020, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he appears on that list.
Schothorst is from a motorsports family, with dad, brother and nephew also racing. After doing two years of GP3, he switched to GT racing at the end of 2017 and has raced in the Blancpain GT Series in an Audi R8 LMS amongst other things. He will get his first shot for the GRT team in the USA.
Heistand arrives from the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus GTD team, where he claimed 6th position in the Championship in 2018. He wants to give Lambo a try, although it will only be the four Michelin Endurance Cup races.
Grasser Racing Team will also run the GEAR Racing Grasser car for Christina Nielsen and Katherine Legge will be driving in the full IMSA season. There are talks about a third Lambo from GRT, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
