Era Motorsport has confirmed their drivers for the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The team will run with Kyle Tilley, Dwight Merriman, Nicolas Minassian and Ryan Lewis at the Daytona 24 Hours in January.
ORECA 07 Gibson LMP2 will be the car of their choice. It was previously announced that they would run with DragonSpeed as a second entry, but they have decided to go solo on this project.
The name which really stands out is Nicolas Minassian, who is a former works driver at Peugeot Sport in their LMP1 days. The Frenchman has more recently been out of the car and working in the role of team manager at IDEC Sport in the European Le Mans Series. He does jump back in the car every now and then, when one of the drivers isn’t able to compete for one or the other reason.
Kyle Tilley is the team principal at Era Motorsport, who has a past of racing cars as well. He most recently has raced in GT cars in the Pirelli World Challenge.
Dwight Merriman will share the car with Tilley for the full season. He has previous raced TCR and Radical cars, so this will be the by far fastest car that he has raced until now.
Ryan Lewis has a British backgroud, just like Tilley. Lewis won the National British Formula 3 title in 2004, and then travelled to the US for Formula Atlantic, turning into the American Le Mans Series, Grand-Am and IMSA commitments, in primarily LMPC cars, but also a LMP2 for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.
The four drivers will share the car for the first time at the ROAR test at Daytona International Speedway next week, ahead of the Rolex 24 at Daytona being run on 25-26 January 2020.
