The ABB FIA Formula E Championship has chosen to cancel this season’s round in Sanya.
The Chinese harbour city was planned to host the race on 21 March 2020, but due to the Corona virus in China, the series has chosen to cancel that date.
It’s not yet clear if they can find a replacement date, or if the race will completely drop out of the 2019/20 schedule. But since the schedule is quite condensed in the following month, there might not be huge chances about that. There is a small opportunity in May between the Seoul and Jakarta races, but that has to fit in with the city being able to host it, and that the health risk being all disappeared.
The race in Sanya has only been run once before, and that was spring 2019. Jean-Eric Vergne was the winner back then, in front of Oliver Rowland and Antonio Felix da Costa.
The next planned round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship 2019/20 will be held in Mexico on 15 February, before Marrakesh in Morocco is scheduled two weeks later. Then the series goes on a break until 4 April, racing in Rome, Italy.
