JMW Motorsport will enter the European Le Mans Series with a brand new set of drivers behind the wheel.
Experienced racer Gunnar Jeannette will be the lead driver on the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo #66, while young Finley Hutchison and gentleman driver Rodrigo Sales will complete the line-up.
Jeannette has been driving sportscars for almost a lifetime, with everything between GT and LMP cars. He was a part of the Panoz team with both their GT2 car, and the ground pounding LMP900 “Batmobile”. With a lot of experience to his CV, he is often chosen to be the lead driver, coaching the other drivers in the car.
Hutchison is a young Scottish talent, who was quickly spotted by his fellow countryman Allan McNish. After some years in karting, he went into single-seaters in 2016, but they were swapped for GT ever since 2017. He has raced various GT categories all around Europe, with a bit of Dubai 24h added into the mix, where he finished on the podium a few years back. 2020 could very well be a make or break year for him, stepping onto the very competitive ELMS GTE stage, with some of the very best GT drivers in the world.
Sales is still quite new in the motorsport world, with a second place in the IMSA SportsCar Challenge Championship in 2018, where he raced an Audi RS3 LMS with Kuno Wittmer. They managed to grab three wins during the season, with four more podiums added on to that, but they narrowly missed out on the title.
The three drivers will only be racing together in the European Le Mans Series, since Richard Heistand has one of the spots for Le Mans. The team hasn’t announced yet if it’s a brand new line-up for the 24 hours race, or if Heistand only replaces Rodrigo Sales as the Bronze-rated driver in the car.
The team last year in the ELMS consisted of Jeff Segal, Wei Lu and Matteo Cressoni.
The European Le Mans Series 2020 starts on 5 April in Barcelona, with a couple of test days in the week leading up to the race.
