Nicklas Nielsen will not only miss out on the 100 Miles FIA WEC race at Sebring next week, but will also miss his debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
He was scheduled to drive for Risi Competizione in the GTLM category, where he would share a Ferrari 488 GTE Evo with Daniel Serra.
With only two drivers on the car for the 12 hours race, it would have been quite an iron man task for both Serra and Nielsen, after both would have participated in the FIA WEC race on the Friday. The FIA WEC race would have been a three-man job for both drivers.
It would have been the first official race as a Ferrari works driver for Nielsen, other than his full season job at AF Corse in GTE Am in the FIA WEC, with the car that he shares with Francois Perrodo and Emmanuel Collard – but he was already handed that seat before he officially was named works driver for the Italian brand.
Serra has already raced quite a few races for the team, and was part of their outfit at Daytona 24 Hours in January 2020.
While the FIA WEC race at Sebring 2020 is cancelled, the 12 hours race will be run in November 2020. But it’s not clear if Nielsen and Serra will get the call once more for Risi Competizione by then, or if the team returns to a more traditional three-man team.
