Inter Europol Competition has presented their colours and plans for the 2020 season in the European Le Mans Series.
There will still be yellow and shocking-green on the Ligier JS P217 in LMP2, and the brand new Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car, but the colour composition is slightly different compared to previous seasons.
There will be a change in the number of cars too.
The Polish team originally planned to participate with 2 cars in LMP2 and 2 cars in LMP3. That will, however, be downscaled to 1 car in each of those categories.
The LMP3 car #13 will be driven by Martin Hippe and Nigel Moore. The pairing was so close at winning the 2019 title, but a calculation error on drive time at the season finale in Portimao, made the Eurointernational car with Mikkel Jensen and Jens Petersen winning the title, by finishing the race ahead of Hippe/Moore. Their aim is to win the title 2020.
The LMP2 car #34 will be driven by Jakub Smiechowski, Rene Binder and Matevos Isaakyan. So that is two new teammates to the Inter Europol-veteran Smiechowski. Binder does have a lot of sportscar experience already, and plenty of ELMS knowledge. The Austrian races for Panis Barthez Competition in 2019, but he did also race for ByKolles Racing team prior to that in the FIA WEC. Russian Isaakyan drove for the SMP Racing in both LMP2 and their LMP1 car in previous years, so he has knowledge of all the five tracks, that the ELMS will visit in 2020.
The European Le Mans Series starts in one and a half weeks with tests at Paul Ricard in the South of France, before the first real race week is in two weeks’ time, at the exact same track.
