33 cars ready for season opener

The ADAC GT Masters 2020 will start off this weekend, with 33 cars entered.

That is a really impressive field, considering all the difficulties regarding the COVID-19 situation around the world, with all the effects on the economy for many companies.

We can refer to the entry list in this previous article, but there have been some changes, that we will highlight here.

Nicolai Sylvest was called up by the MRS GT-Racing BMW #14 team earlier this week. He raced for the outfit last year, and was actually not meant to race for them this year. But they were all of a sudden missing a teammate for Jens Klingmann, when Marius Zug had to pull out. Sylvest is no stranger to late call-ups – it has actually become the norm for him, when he raced for Team Zakspeed for three seasons, and now for MRS GT-Racing.

Another of the big news is that Bentley is back in the ADAC GT Masters. The T3-HRT Motorsport outfit will run a single Audi R8 LMS with Maximilian Paul/Niels Langeveld and a Bentley Continental GT3 with Constantin Schöll/Jordan Pepper. Pepper is works driver fro Bentley, so he will bring a lot of knowledge to the team.

Unfortunately, we have lot HB-Racing and their Ferrari, but that has been replaced by another Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche, where Alfred Renauer will share car #7 with Sebastian Asch. Alfred’s twin brother, Robert, will continue to race in #99, where he will race alongside Sven Müller.

Team WRT Audi have put names on their four drivers. Car #30 will be Mirko Bortolotti and Rolf Ineichen, while #32 will be an all-Belgian line-up with Charles Weerts and Dries Vanthoor, for the Belgian outfit.

Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing #20 has signed Mick Wishofer alongside Dorian Boccolacci, so that will be their junior car, compared to the more experienced drivers in #21,  Daniel Keilwitz and Jimmy Eriksson.

Rahel Frey has been called up by Aust Motorsport Audi for #4, alongside Hendrik von Danwitz. Frey has plenty of experience in the ADAC GT Masters, where she raced several seasons for YACO Racing in their Audi.

We have lost EFP Car Collection by TECE Audi #12, meant to be raced by Florian Spengler and Markus Winkelhock. The team is down to just their car #11 with Pierre Kaffer and Elia Erhart.

There is, however, another Porsche in the field, that we are referring to in this article.

The ADAC GT Masters will run one Saturday race, and another one Sunday afternoon. Both races can be viewed on YouTube, with green flag 13.05 CET both days.
