Phoenix Racing enters LMP racing

Phoenix Racing will expand their racing programme to include Le Mans Prototypes.

The German team which is based in Meuspath near the Nürburgring, have bought an ORECA 07 LMP2 car, which they will run in the Asian Le Mans Series, this coming season.

They are also working on getting an LMP3 car entered in the same series.

The next step will be running in the European Le Mans Series, and then their ultimate goal – an entry to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team has been a long-standing partner with Audi Sport with their DTM programme, but since that will close down after the 2020 season, the team has been looking for other things to do. They are still active in GT3 and GT4 racing with Audi cars, and there is no indication of that to change in 2021.

They are hoping to be able to compete in LMDh in the future, but point out that it’s more important to get well into the LMP2 programme before advancing. LMDh will be based on the new LMP2 chassis, and is planned to be introduced in 2022, with the possibility of being pushed back to 2023 due to the COVID-19 situation.

The upcoming Asian Le Mans Series season will run over four rounds at Buriram and Sepang in January 2021.
