RLR MSport and Malthe Jakobsen will be working together for another season.
The British team has signed a new contract with the Young Dane, so he will race another season in the European Le Mans Series, in the LMP3 category.
The team has been impressed by Malthe since the very first test in November last year, and the Dane hasn’t let them down results wise.
He qualified the car on P3 at the opening round at Paul Ricard, and raced to third position in the race, alongside James Dayson and Ryan Harper-Ellam.
The result at Spa wasn’t quite as good, partly down to some penalties that Dayson incurred.
Jakobson was only a matter of seconds away from taking Pole, when the series returned to Paul Ricard at the end of August. Pole Position was grabbed by a competitor, who just managed to sneak over the start-finish line a matter of seconds before the chequered flag, handing him an extra lap, on a drying track. The race was sadly a disappointment, since his co-drivers lost too much time during the race, that he wasn’t able to recover in his stint.
He was oh so close at grabbing Pole at Monza, where P1 and P2 were changing all the time – but did end up in P2. The race ended on a disappointing 9th position, due to Dayson having an incident on lap 1, plus there was some damage to the car, that made it really tough to drive for the rest of the race.
The season finale in the ELMS will run this weekend at Portimao. Jakobsen and Dayson will be joined by the fourth teammate in five races for that round. Lorenzo Veglia has previous experience from BHK Motorsport, who also races in the ELMS with a Ligier JS P320 Nissan LMP3 car.
It is already announced that Malthe Jakobsen is ranked as Silver again in 2021, and with the pace that he has already shown this season, the team hopes to find two good co-drivers, so they hopefully can stick to the same line-up throughout the full season, instead of all of this chopping and changing.
