Helio Castroneves will be slightly busier in the NTT IndyCar Series 2021 season.
The Brazilian has signed a six-race contract with Meyer Shank Racing, to race their second car alongside the full-season car of Jack Harvey. MSR has bought the car from DragonSpeed, who longer wants to enter Indycar.
Castroneves will race at Barber Motorsports Park, Long Beach Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, at the IMS Road Course, Portland International Raceway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
It’s going to be quite a chance for Castroneves, who has been Team Penske driver ever since the Year 2000. He raced CART/Indycar for them through many seasons, before getting a seat in their sportscar programme, where he still is within the chance of winning the title this year.
He did, however, get a test of racing an Indycar for a different team earlier this year, when he replaced Oliver Askew at the Arrow McLaren SP team, when Askew was unable to race the car due to illness.
Meyer Shank Racing will take over the running of the Acura DPi car, that Helio Castroneves raced this season. But it’s not yet announced if this is a double programme for Helio, or if his sportscar career is done for now. If he will do both series, he will be very busy at Long Beach, since both NTT IndyCar Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races that weekend.
