United Autosports has announced their first FIA World Endurance Championship entry for the 2021 season.
The choice of drivers is two-thirds of the championship-winning car from the 2019/20 season, with Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque continuing as a pairing.
Phil Hanson is Silver ranked driver until 1. January 2021, where he will be upgraded to Gold. That has resulted in the team having to find a new Silver driver.
They have found Fabio Scherer, who has experience from single-seaters, GT cars, and most recently, DTM.
With the changes to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule, that was announced earlier this week, the team will most likely have to race without Albuquerque at the FIA WEC race at Fuji, since that clashes with the IMSA round in Long Beach.
This will be the fourth season for Hanson and Albuquerque to share the car. Their most successful year was 2020, where they won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA WEC and ELMS LMP2 titles together.
United Autosports is planning to enter a second LMP2 car in the FIA WEC 2021, but the drivers for that entry are not yet announced.
The 2021 season is scheduled to start with the 1000 Miles of Sebring in the middle of March.
