IMSA reacts to Le Mans change

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has reacted to the date change of the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The change in date resulted in a date clash between their race at Virginia International Raceway and Le Mans.

That has resulted in a number of changes for the American series.

The VIR race is for GTLM and GTD cars only, and the GTLM cars hopefully being in France for Le Mans in August. So that race has been pushed back to 10 October.

That moves the season finale at Petit Le Mans to 13 November, just like Sebring was pushed to November back in 2020.

The teams planning to do Le Mans, will still have to cross their fingers for no major damages prior to or during the French race. Road America will run on 8 August, while the next IMSA race will be at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on 12 September.

The next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2021 schedule is the Sebring 12 Hours on Saturday 20 March.
